Medium Format Magazine - Project Faroe Islands

Medium Format Magazine - Project Faroe Islands

I’m delighted to say that my relationship with Medium Format Magazine continues to grow.

My latest contribution to this excellent magazine is an interview for their ‘Project’ feature.

The village church at Saksun, built in 1858.

In the interview I answer questions about a commission I shot on the Faroe Islands, for Land Rover.

We spent close to a week shooting the Discovery Sport in various locations on the islands. We also made some portraits in the rain and shot some delicious and unusual food too.

“It’s worth saying that the personal work is hugely important in gaining commissioned work. Art directors like to see what makes you tick…”

Chef Áki Herálvsson of the KOKS restaurant.

In the article I talk about my photographic passions and the challenges of location automotive photography.

Smooth winding roads pass through a tortured and fascinating landscape.

I talk about the creative and visual process of photographing cars, and also the relationship with the client with regards to that aspect of the project.

Faroese Langoustine.

I also discuss the preparation that goes in to shooting vehicles on location, and the importance of professional valets.

The scale of the landscape elements varies enormously on the Faroe Islands!

Also, I discuss how personal work has had an impact on my commissioned work, and why it is so important.

Seaweed expert Agnes Mols Mortensen and her brother Morten, on Tjørnuik beach.

The portraits were lit with a single battery powered Profoto 7B flash and soft box. The wind and rain on some of the shoot days were an enjoyable challenge!
